Hello Vineyard of Faith's Faithful Folk,
Over the past few weeks Eric Allen and I, Sylvan Finger, though our church needed a stronger identity. Our first presentation or VOF theme does not attract the unchurched nor give the innovative feel that we represent. This is affected primarily in our media. The start for our new identity begins with the VOF logo. A logo gives a theme, key colors, a visual, and an icon to represent VOF. So if one person were to walk by a poster presenting VOF, they would recognize us in a heartbeat just from our eye-catching logo. The characteristics of the logo will affect the look of the narthex, the bulletins, our website, our t-shirts, The Vine, our promotions/ events, etc. It's a vital piece to build a bridge and attract the unchurched. Due to recent spiritual leadership changes in our church I do not think it is wise to start applying the proposed logo until we have an installed leader on VOF staff.
I would like the new identity to be easily seen and viewed as a church that is making a difference and is actively impacting the world. Not as a church in standby for a new leader. I plan to send this information to the MST as soon as I am finished with your opinions and have come up with only one logo to present, hopefully.
Just as a disclaimer, this project is not funded by VOF. The current staff and leadership is not knowledgeable of this project. Due to recent issues, the MST leadership is not interested in the project. Therefore I have taken the responsibility and full ownership of this project under the will of my own in order get this project completed. The completed design for a new logo will be proposed to the MST. Because this is technically my project and vision there is a possibility it will be thrown out due to lack of support.
I chose you to participate in this project because I and the church have seen your faithful attitude towards VOF. When I heard the enthusiasm of the DIVE team over a recording it gave me great joy and hope for VOF to move mountains. You have the same if not similar vision for VOF. It's the vision of the DIVE team and it's the vision of Gravity.
To catch you up on the project, the Allen's and I, mostly Eric though, thought the logo should be have these characteristics:
· warm
· a sans font
· able to be integrated or separate an icon and text
· have a contemporary, clean look
· trendy but not over the top
· icon should consist and abstract of the cross and something relating to a vineyard
I have recently received three comps for the new logo designs from the company.
When you see these ask yourself
· Does it or should it represent my church?
· Would the unchurched see this as inviting or welcoming?
· Would the church be comfortable it?
· How does the youth see it?
· Would you want to wear it on a t-shirt?
· Does it represent Christ?
Would you move, add, or remove a line or anything in the logo to help you answer yes or give positive answers to all the questions above?

Another side note.
This one idea may need to come from a Pastor but I figured why not ask ya'll: VOF needs like a chant or motto that is short and sweet. The current motto is "Living in Christ, and Sharing his love!". That sound pretty and all but if we are to use that on our outreach media "say a website", the unchurched doesn't really know what that means. It's a very Christian-ese statement. To be honest some one could say "VOF is just for special people" or "love hurts". Love is a very wide open term. Agape love isn't understood by the unchurched. I came up with those examples by the way. Eric Allen posted "You belong here." for the header on the website, vof.org. As I was brainstorming I came up with a combination of the two. I started thinking "A place for Christ. A place for family. and place for you." But that was too long. So I shortened it up. "For Christ. For Community. For You." I like it but I'm just one person, one idea. What are your thoughts?
